Mondays in Barbados recording ...Yes Please
These sessions have gone down in music folklore as being some of the craziest in recent times and that is pretty much an understatement. It was never going to end well once Shaun had smashed his Methadone supply on Manchester Airport's floor but what happened for the next several weeks was insanity even by the Mondays standards.
There is a great breakdown of the whole affair on James Harvgreaves' YouTube channel which can be watched on the right. This includes interviews from some of the Mondays so you get the info straight from the horses mouth. It is definitely worth a watch.
I have several tapes from these sessions which show the progression of the songs from the very rough and basic instrumentals up to the various mixes of each song. The instrumentals are interesting as they always remind me of the scene in 24 Hour Party People were Shaun blackmails Tony into sending him more money for rock but when they play the tape it is just the instrumental for Sunshine & Love! haha As we know now Shaun was unable to lay down any vocals over in Barbados and had to do everything on his return to England and rehab.
As you can see from the images many of the songs had very different titles to what was released on the final version. I kinda like some of the original titles personally.
Yes Please Instrumentals #1 Tape. Out of the six tapes I have relating to the Yes Please sessions this would be the first as it is early versions of just the instrumentals.
